Mierovo (Slovak 1948-1960 "Sklenárovo" - until 1948 "Béke"; German Krotendörfl , Hungarian Béke - until the 19th century Beke ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 447 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the western part of the Big Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 124 m nm and is seven kilometers from Šamorín , 21 kilometers from Dunajská Streda and 27 kilometers from Bratislava .
Neighboring municipalities are Hubice in the north, Oľdza in the northeast, Lehnice in the east, Veľká Paka in the southeast and south, Kvetoslavov in the southwest, Hviezdoslavov in the west and Štvrtok na Ostrove in the northwest.
history
Mierovo was first mentioned in writing as Beke in 1260 . The place belonged to several landowners, such as Séredy and Mérey in 1553; in the same year the village had a total of five portals . In the 19th century, Béke was divided between the estates of Eberhardt and St. Georgen . In 1828 there were 33 houses and 241 inhabitants,
Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .
In 1948, the place previously called Béke was first named in honor of the Slovak historian Juraj Sklenár (1744–1790) "Sklenárovo" (also means sklenár in German glassmaker ), followed in 1960 another renaming to Mierovo. From a linguistic point of view, today's name is a translation of Hungarian, since Hungarian beke = slow. mier , in German peace.

According to the 2011 census, 445 people lived in Mierovo, including 331 Magyars, 100 Slovaks, eight Roma and one Czech. Five residents did not provide any information. 381 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Reformed Church; three residents professed a different denomination. 35 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 22 residents was not determined.
