Čenkovce (until 1948 Slovak "Csenke"; Hungarian Csenke ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 1098 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the western part of the Big Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The 11.57 km² large municipal area is elongated, flat and covered by black soils in a west-east direction. The center of the village is at an altitude of 123  m nm and is 14 kilometers from Šamorín , 22 kilometers from Dunajská Streda and 34 kilometers from Bratislava .

Neighboring communities are Zlaté Klasy (district Rastice ) in the north-west, Nový Život in the north and northeast, Lehnice in the east, Zlaté Klasy (district Maslovce ) and Oľdza in the south and Hubice in the southwest.

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1211 as Chenekel and until the 19th century belonged to the Csenkey family , who had their ancestral home here. Nevertheless, families like Esterházy, Pálffy and Zichy owned estates in the village in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1828 there were 22 houses and 178 inhabitants who lived from agriculture.

Until 1919, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .

In 1960, Čenkovce was incorporated into the newly created municipality of Zlaté Klasy; since 1993 it has been independent again and separates the two remaining districts of Zlaté Klasy, Maslovce and Rastice from each other.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1091 inhabitants in Čenkovce, including 861 Magyars, 198 Slovaks, two Bulgarians, two Moravians, two Czechs and one Ukrainian; one resident belonged to a different ethnic group. 24 residents gave no answer. 952 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 13 residents to the Reformed Church, 12 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Greek Catholic Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 46 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 62 inhabitants was not determined.
