Povoda (Hungarian Pódatejed ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 969 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Dunajská Streda , part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the central part of the Great Schüttinsel , part of the Slovak Danube lowlands . The Gabčíkovo – Topoľníky Canal marks the southern border of the built-up area. The center of the village is at an altitude of 115 m nm and is three kilometers from Dunajská Streda .
Neighboring communities are Dunajská Streda in the west and north, Kútniky in the northeast and east, Mad in the southeast and Vrakúň in the south.
history
One of the parish parts, Pódafa, was first mentioned in writing in 1332 as Poda Ety . In 1455 the local Poda-Etjei family received ownership of the village, which lasted until the 18th century. In the 19th century a steam mill worked in the village. In 1828 there were 19 houses and 140 inhabitants.
The present municipality was created in 1940 through the merger of the places Čenkovce (Hungarian Csenkeszfa ), Lidér-Tejed and Pódafa . At that time the community was called Pódatejed , because it was in the area occupied by Hungary after the First Vienna Arbitration . After the reintegration into Czechoslovakia , the Hungarian-sounding name Pódatejed was changed to Povoda .
From 1960 to 1990 Povoda was part of the Kútniky municipality .
population
According to the 2011 census, Povoda had 877 inhabitants, including 637 Magyars, 201 Slovaks, six Czechs and one Ukrainian. One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 31 residents gave no information. 663 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 43 residents the Reformed Church, 23 residents the Evangelical Church AB, six residents the Greek Catholic Church, three residents the Evangelical Methodist Church, two residents the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and one resident the Jewish Local community; two residents professed a different denomination. 49 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 85 inhabitants was not determined.
