The municipality is located on the Great Schüttinsel , a river island of the Danube , which flows a few kilometers to the south, partially stowed in the Gabčíkovo power station . history
The place Vrakúň was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1262 as Warkun (according to some sources it is already documented in 1015). It was mostly an agricultural community, the owners included families such as Nyék , Méhes , Balogh and Amade .
The neighboring place Nekyje is mentioned for the first time in 1165, in 1245 as Neku . It originally belonged to the estate of Pressburg Castle and was later owned by various noble families.
Both places in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1919 and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . In 1940, after the First Vienna Arbitration for places belonging to Hungary, the two places merged.
