Sap (up to 1948 in Slovak "Szap", from 1948 to 1990 "Palkovičovo"; Hungarian Szap ) is a municipality in southwestern Slovakia on the Danube and the border with Hungary .
history
Sap was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1289 (other sources speak of 1255), and in 1455 the place came under the Bratislava rule.
Until 1918 the place belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia , through the First Vienna Arbitration the community came back to Hungary for a short time from 1938 to 1945.
In 1948, the community was in honor of the Slovak poet Juraj Palkovič in Palkovicovo renamed.
General
The inhabitants are almost exclusively Hungarians (98%). They live mainly from agriculture and fishing.
There is a classical church from the 18th century in the village. The Gabčíkovo power plant ends in the course of the Danube to the west of the village .
