The German School New York is a German school abroad based in White Plains , New York State .

history

The school was founded in 1980 and is an independent, bilingual, non-denominational German and international school abroad for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. GISNY graduates receive both the NY State High School Diploma and the German International Abitur (DIA).

The school is officially recognized by the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Association of Private Schools in New York State (NYSAIS), and the New York State Department of Education.

In 2014 and 2009 the school was awarded the “Excellent German School Abroad” seal of approval by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) of the Federal Office of Administration.

In 2014 the name of the school was changed to German International School New York (GISNY) in order to take account of the increasing internationalization.

Teaching staff Over 50 teachers, mostly with German or European training.

Curriculum GISNY offers a demanding curriculum that is based on the educational plans of the Federal Republic of Germany as well as the requirements of the state of New York. Oriented towards the bilingual German International Abitur examination, lessons in geography, biology, music, art, sport and American history are taught partly in English or bilingually in German-English.
