The Neumühle in Lißberg is a closed, baroque watermill in the Hessian Wetteraukreis from 1722. It was built as a replacement for the monastery mill in Konradsdorf that was closed. In the 19th century, the facility was heavily modified several times. It is located in the middle of three other mills and is topographically highlighted by its remote location. The entire complex is under monument protection for reasons of settlement and economic history .

Geographical location

The Neumühle is located in the Wetteraukreis and belongs to Lißberg , a district of Ortenberg . It is located on the Nidder between the Weidmühle and another upstream mill in Lißberg at 160 meters above sea level, directly on the Vulkanradweg and the federal highway 275 . The Nidder power plant is located about 2 km further upstream .

description

Three connected building complexes are arranged around the trapezoidal inner courtyard . On the northern side of the trapezoid is a building complex that houses a barn , the former cow stall and the former servants' house. A building complex in the form of a mirror-inverted “L” is located on the western part of the trapezoid. The living and mill wing are located in this part . The building was built in a mixed construction of natural stone , half-timbered and brick (see picture above). The southern part of this building complex is aligned parallel to the course of the river. The mill wing was housed here and today it still houses the gearbox and generator of the hydropower plant in the basement . The southern and eastern parts of the building arrangement around the trapezoidal courtyard form a shelter in the south and a sandstone building in the east, which contained four stables for pigs, chickens and horses.

A few meters northwest of the main building complex is a barn that was used to store straw and agricultural machinery .

Today's meaning

The Neumühle is now privately owned by a family and is constantly being repaired. The family bought the property in 1980 in a dilapidated condition and renovated it bit by bit, mostly on their own. Other parts of the farm are currently being expanded and maintained by the second generation of owners.

power supply

The Neumühle has no connection to an energy supply company and, as a so-called island operation, supplies itself with electricity. The entire electrical energy supply for the property is provided by the hydropower plant integrated in the mill with an installed output of around 15 kW (el). The electricity is generated by an Ossberger turbine from a drop height of around three meters.
