The Little Danube ( Malý Dunaj in Slovak , Kis-Duna in Hungarian ) is a branch of the Danube in Slovakia .
The Little Danube branches off from the Danube near Bratislava and flows in numerous meanders roughly parallel to the north along the main river. After about 128 kilometers it flows into the river Waag at Kolárovo . The part of the Waag between Kolárovo and the confluence with the Danube is very rarely also called Waager Donau (Slovak: Vážsky Dunaj , Hungarian: Vág-Duna ). The river system forms the largest inland island in Europe, the Great Schüttinsel .
From an unknown point in time until the 16th century , the Little Danube formed the main river of the Danube.
During floods - around June 2013 - the arm is used.
