Csokvaomány is a Hungarian community in the district Ózd in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén .
history
Csokvaomány, which actually emerged from the two places Csokva and Omány , was first mentioned in 1221. Officially merged in 1943, but not actually united until 1949. The settlers were probably Czechs, but there could also have been Germans among them.
Certain evidence from the document from 1221 indicates the customs and habits of Czech settlers, the name Omány also has Czech roots. The Slavic name Pohorka is common in the area of Csokva , but the area indicates German population. There were soon marriages between the settlers and the Magyars , the occupations in the first centuries consisted only of agricultural and forestry activities, including using the soil, tending cattle while grazing, mowing meadows and clearing forests.
At the beginning of the 14th century Csokva was ecclesiastically led by the abbey from Bélháromkút, later by the monastery of Eger . Omány, on the other hand, was worldly run by a wealthy landlord and his family, they even owned the village of Nekézseny for a time . The family named themselves after the name of the place Omány .
Mid-16th century took marauders of the Ottoman Beys from the city Fülek an arson on Omány , while the village was burned down. In the two villages of Csokva and Omány there were only a few dozen houses left at the end of the 16th century.
After 1711 the population grew rapidly, the census of 1787 showed that Csokva has 40 houses and 302 inhabitants and in Omány 33 houses and 269 people were counted. The church in Csokvaomány was built in 1735, the first school around 1806.
Csokvaomány experienced a real boom between 1945 and 1989 thanks to mining operations in the surrounding areas. School development began in 1945 and the new school building was inaugurated in the 1980s. Further enrichments followed, for example through the establishment of a doctor's practice. After the turning point around 1989 the village suffered severe setbacks, the mine, the metallurgy of Ózd and other companies that had been employers of the village were closed. The future of the actually modern equipped community is difficult; solutions for a long-term economic upturn are sought.
Location and climate
Geographically, Csokvaomány is in the north of Hungary, Miskolc county seat is 50 km to the east, Ózd 20 km to the northwest.
The formation of the landscape can be looked back on the last Ice Age , then on the snow-covered tundra areas , which formed undulating, hill-like soils. Oak and beech forests shaped the landscape in the past, flora and fauna were and are extensively available today. Excavation finds prove the earlier present by prehistoric hunters in the area of today's village.
For the settlers there used to be optimal soil conditions and weather, especially the weather conditions are still advantageous for forestry today .
Neighboring municipalities are Nekézseny , Sáta and Lénárddaróc .
