Štěnovice (German Stienowitz , also Stenowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located nine kilometers south of the city center of Plzeň and belongs to the Okres Plzeň-jih .
geography
Štěnovice is located in the Úhlava valley . To the north runs the Dálnice 5 motorway , which runs through the 380 m long Valík tunnel in the municipality.
history
The first mention of the village comes from 1327 in connection with Jaroslav ze Štěnovic, a nobleman from Homberk , who had a boar's head in his coat of arms.
Granite has been mined in Štěnovice since 1864 (regularly since 1873) and was used to pave the streets in Pilsen and Prague . The stonemason tool in the municipality's coat of arms reminds of this.
