Klášter (German monastery ) is a municipality with 151 inhabitants in the Czech Republic . It is located one kilometer north of the city of Nepomuk on the Úslava and belongs to the Okres Plzeň-jih . Most of the village lies within the ruins of a medieval monastery that was destroyed in 1420. The cadastral area is 865 hectares.

geography

The village is located at an altitude of 428 m at the northern foot of the 536 m high Zelená hora on the left of the Úslava opposite the confluence of the Mihovka . The Klášterský rybník, in which the Úslava is dammed, is located south of the village.

Neighboring towns are Nepomuk in the south, Prádlo and Novotníky in the west, and Srby , Vrčeň and Dvorec in the east.

history

Remains of the Cistercian monastery

The place was created in 1144 with the establishment of a Cistercian monastery Pomuk by monks from the Ebrach monastery . In April 1420, during the Hussite Wars , the Nepomuk Monastery and the town were destroyed by the troops of Jan Žižka and never rebuilt. On August 22nd, 1420 King Sigismund gave the brothers Bohuslav and Hynek Krušinov von Schwanberg for loyal service all possessions of the destroyed monastery from which the Grünberg estate was formed. Bohuslav d. J. sold this property to Zdenko von Sternberg in 1464 .

Landmarks of the place are the walls of the monastery with the remains of Gothic windows and arcades.
