Christian Streiff

Christian Streiff (born September 21, 1954 in Sarrebourg , Lorraine ) is a French manager .

Life

Streiff holds a diploma from the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines , the French national mining engineering college in Paris , which is one of the elite universities.

He began his career in 1979 at the international French company Saint-Gobain . In addition to his industrial and technological tasks, he was employed in various functions related to the use of glass fiber reinforced plastics as well as ceramic and plastic plastics in the automotive industry .

Streiff, who speaks perfect German, English and Italian in addition to French and describes himself as French and half-German, spent a total of fifteen years in various positions in Germany in Herzogenrath , in Aachen and at the Halbergerhütte in Saarland , before moving to various posts in Italy and France was appointed president of the sewerage branch of the former pipe manufacturer Pont-A-Mousson SA in 1997. From 2001 to 2003 he headed the High-Performance Materials Sector based in Paris and Boston , Massachusetts , USA , before moving up to General Manager in 2004.

During his time from 1985 to 1992 at the head of Gevetex, a glass fiber factory owned by Saint-Gobain Vetrotex in Herzogenrath near Aachen, he found time to condense his experiences and reflections on German reunification into a novel entitled War Game . In it, a French manager unscrupulously teaches an East German plant manager the laws of capitalism. It is not without reason that it is criticized that the French character in the novel has autobiographical traits and that other people in the novel are borrowed from real life at the time. The chosen place name Osbach is a mixture of Oschatz (VEB Glasseidenwerk Oschatz, from 1990 Glasseiden GmbH Oschatz, from 1993 PD Glasseiden GmbH Oschatz) and the name of an employee.

Streiff became General Director and Deputy Chairman of the Board of the multinational glass and building materials manufacturer Saint-Gobain. There he enjoyed the role of "Crown Prince" of CEO Jean-Louis Beffa until May 2005 . There he was described as "spontaneous, impulsive, impatient, charismatic, but not always skillful". He was a member of the supervisory board of the German steel and technology group ThyssenKrupp AG (2005 to January 2015), the German tire manufacturer and automotive supplier Continental AG (October 2005 to 2009) and the Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian SpA.

On July 2, 2006, Streiff was appointed to the board of directors of the European aerospace group EADS and CEO of the Airbus subsidiary . His wish to become one of the two co-presidents at both EADS and Airbus was denied. To overcome the drop in revenues resulting from the weak dollar and the production crisis of the new A380 wide-body jet, Streiff presented its Power8 restructuring plan , which aims to save € 2 billion within four years due to delivery delays. He announced that he wanted to change the “standard of living at Airbus”, which in Germany was seen as a danger, especially for Hamburg-Finkenwerder as the location for the final assembly and delivery of the A380. Streiff's statement caused a stir that the problems with the A380 would set Airbus back by two to three years, and Airbus would need ten to fifteen years to catch up with its competitor Boeing in terms of production and development.

After rumors of an imminent resignation due to controversies about Streiff's restructuring plan and dissent with EADS co-boss Thomas Enders , Streiff resigned on October 9, 2006 after only three months. He justified his move with the dual management structure at EADS and Airbus, which did not leave him the necessary operational power. His successor was Louis Gallois , who on July 2, 2006 had inherited Noël Forgeard in his position as co-head of EADS.

On February 6, 2007, Christian Streiff succeeded Jean-Martin Folz as CEO of the French automotive group PSA Peugeot Citroën . However, Streiff was replaced again on March 29, 2009 by chairman of the supervisory board Thierry Peugeot , who named Philippe Varin as his successor .
