Noël Forgeard (born December 8, 1946 in La Ferté-Gaucher ) was one of the two equal chairmen of the EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company) from 2005 to 2006 .

Forgeard studied at the École polytechnique in Paris . He initially worked as an engineer in the French Ministry of Industry, then as a technical advisor in 1978 for civil aviation in the Ministry of Transport and in 1980 for armaments in the Ministry of Defense .

In 1981 he joined Usinor as Deputy General Manager and, through his strategic vision, made a significant contribution to the reorganization of the French steel industry.

1986–87 he was an industrial advisor to Jacques Chirac , then Prime Minister.

He then moved to Matra and in 1989 became chairman of the aerospace and armaments divisions. From 1992 he was General Manager of the Lagardère Group , then President of Matra Hautes Technologies .

From April 1998 on Forgeard was Managing Director of Airbus . During this time, the start of the A380 program, which he had driven forward, coincided with the transformation of Airbus from individual national to an integrated company, as well as significant commercial successes: Since 2003, Airbus has outstripped Boeing in the number of aircraft sold.

In 2005 he took over the management of EADS together with Thomas Enders . After significant delays in delivery of the Airbus A380 and the crash of EADS shares on June 13, 2006, Forgeard was the focus of criticism because he had redeemed EADS stock options in mid-March. Both the German and the French pushed him to resign, which took place on July 2, 2006. Forgeard has received 8.5 million euros from his former employer on his early departure, according to the EADS shareholder filing for the general meeting on May 4, 2007 in advance.

On May 28, 2008, former EADS boss Noël Forgeard was temporarily arrested in connection with an investigation into insider trading.

Forgeard is married and has four children.
