Louis Gallois
Louis René Fernand Gallois (born January 26, 1944 in Montauban ) is a French manager . Until the end of May 2012 he was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the aerospace and defense company EADS . At the beginning of June 2012 he was appointed General Commissioner for French State Investments.
Life
As a graduate of the école des hautes études commerciales (HEC) and École nationale d'administration (ENA) , Gallois entered the civil service after completing his training. First he held a position in the Treasury. In 1981 the then Defense Minister Jean-Pierre Chevènement brought him to the Ministry of Research and in 1988 to the French Ministry of Defense.
In 1989 Gallois was appointed Chairman and CEO of the French engine manufacturer SNECMA . He then worked from 1992 to 1996 as CEO of EADS 'predecessor company Aérospatiale . In 1996 he started as General Director of the French state railway SNCF . On July 2, 2006, he was appointed Co-CEO of EADS to succeed Noël Forgeard . He initially ran the company together with the German Thomas Enders . On October 9, 2006, he also took over the management of Airbus , the largest subsidiary (with separate entities) of EADS, as successor to Christian Streiff .
In response to the crisis at Airbus, the EADS dual leadership was abolished in July 2007, and Louis Gallois was appointed sole head of EADS. In return, Thomas Enders took over his board position at Airbus. On June 1, 2012, Enders succeeded Gallois as EADS boss.
Gallois has been a member of the EADS Board of Directors since 2000 . He is also a member of the Conseil d'Administration (board of directors) of the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures and chairman of the Fonds de dotation Universcience Partenaires of the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie .
In November 2012, Gallois submitted an opinion with 22 possible measures to make the country's currently weak economy more competitive. Prime Minister Ayrault commissioned the report in July.
He is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Groupe PSA , a motor vehicle manufacturer with the brands Peugeot , Citroën , DS Automobiles , Opel and Vauxhall .
