The Nýrsko dam (Czech Vodní nádrž Nýrsko ) is a drinking water dam on the Úhlava in the Czech Republic . It is located three kilometers south of Nýrsko in the Okres Klatovy .

geography

The dam is located south of Stará Lhota on the breakthrough valley of the Úhlava between the Rantscherkamm and the Kreuzbergkamm in the Künischen Mountains , the north-western part of the Bohemian Forest . The reservoir extends over two and a half kilometers south to Hamerský Dvůr and also includes the mouth of the Zelenský potok. The municipal boundary between Nýrsko, Dešenice and Hamry runs through the reservoir . The water surface belongs partly to the cadastral districts Stará Lhota, Milence, Zelená Lhota and Hamry na Šumavě, with the largest part belonging to Hamry na Šumavě. State road II / 190 runs along the east bank between Nýrsko and Železná Ruda . Above it, the Plzeň – Železná Ruda railway from the Milenecký tunnel runs through the valley.

To the left of the reservoir lie the layers of Na Lesní Louce, Na Špirku, Gubrův Dvorec and Rodrovský Dvorec; Zelená Lhota is located on the right bank.

history

The wide floodplain of the Angelbach in the border area of the dominions of Bistritz an der Angel and Deschenitz with the künischen free courts Hammern and Eisenstraß was only sparsely populated. Below the Hammerhof ( Hamerský Dvůr ) there was only the Přední Hamry ( Přední Hamry ), which belonged to Deschenitz, and the Tremlhof ( Tremlovský Dvorec ), which belonged to the hammers.

At the beginning of the 1960s, it was decided to build a dam on the upper Úhlava, which should mainly serve to balance the flow of the river at the drinking water treatment plant for Pilsen and the surrounding area on the Velká Homolka 90 kilometers downstream . The dam was built between 1965 and 1969. The settlements Veitlovský Dvorec ( Veitlhof ), Přední Hamry, Tremlovský Dvorec, Tremlův Mlýn ( Tremlmühle ) and Bruckhof were flooded .

After it became clear that the dam's capacity could also cover the drinking water supply of the Klatovy and Domažlice regions , the construction of a new water treatment plant below the dam was approved in 1973. Between 1980 and 1986, the Milence drinking water treatment plant was built east of Stará Lhota and supplies the Klatovy and Domažlice regions. In addition, the dam is used for flood protection and, since 1996, has also been used to generate electricity.

description

The 36.2 m high and 320 m long stone embankment is sealed on the water side with reinforced concrete. The outer side of the dam was planted with ornamental trees. The drainage took place through a manhole overflow tower, which leads off via a connecting tunnel to two low outlets and to the Milence water treatment plant. In addition, the dam has a side overflow on the left bank. In 1996, a Bánki ČKD turbine was installed in both outlets to generate electricity.
