Operated by the power plant company Rusel mbH Ruselkraftwerke (including power plant Maxhofen ) below the Rusel in the Bavarian Forest have an installed capacity of about 39  MW . The power plant has been operated as a pure peak load power plant since 1973 . The power plant company was the general supplier of the city of Deggendorf until 1960 . The first power station building to be built is on the former B 11 (today State Road 2135 ) on the eastern edge of the Mietraching district just before the ascent to the Ruselberg route .

Building history

The power plant in the eastern Mietraching district of Maxhofen, which has been named since 1849, was built in 1919/20 on the old site of a sawmill. However, it took nine years for the first turbine sets to go into operation , and so the Maxhofen power plant at that time was not granted permission under water law until 1929. The construction work was dragged out due to poor building materials, concerns from the city fathers and other disputes. At that time the power plant was equipped with two sets of machines of 500 kW and 600 kW. The necessary water was taken from the dams of the Höllbach and Saulochbach.

Only after the Second World War could the planned performance be achieved with new machine sets. The Höllbachsatz was expanded to 1 MW and the Saulochsatz to 850 kW. In line with this, the pressure pipelines and the dams were adapted to their current form. In 1952, an 800 kW MAN submarine diesel was also installed, but it is no longer in operation today.

In 1955 the power plant was expanded to include two steam systems. The boiler output was 800 kW.

From 1956 to 1957 the pumped storage power plant Oberberg 1 and its high storage facility Oberberg / Parst were built. The free jet turbine and the generator had an output of 500 kW. The installed pump power was 380 kW. As early as 1962 this machine was exchanged for a 1.75 MW powerful new turbine. The Oberberg II plant was installed at the end of 1964. The power output is 1.75 MW and the pump power grew to 1 MW.

From 1973 to 1978 another power plant with a dam was built in Kleinfilling. In addition, over 16 kilometers of new penstocks were laid. In addition, four large diesel plants with an electrical output of 25 MW were installed.

Today's operation

The maximum output today is around 39 MW. The diesel system is currently set up as an hourly reserve and was last started up after the nuclear power plant throttling in June 2006. Current considerations include converting to a second reserve and burning palm oil . Furthermore, the possibility of district heating extraction was created.

The smaller Saulochbach turbine is now operated as a pure run-of-river power plant and remunerated in accordance with the Renewable Energy Sources Act . It is usually only used by the hour at times of low load.
