List of Albanian exonyms for German toponyms
In this list , places in the German-speaking area (cities, rivers, islands, etc.) are compared with the names that are common in Albanian . As a rule, letters are replaced in such a way that the pronunciation comes as close as possible to the original, for example w is replaced by v , z by c , ü by y , sch by sh and ch by h .
The Albanian language also has a specific and indefinite form for names, which is expressed in the ending of the word. In this respect, there is a second version for each place - usually the particular form in which an i or a u is simply appended to the place name.
