Particularities:

Storage capacity: 950 MWh

The Langenprozelten pumped storage power plant near Gemünden am Main in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart ( Bavaria ) went into operation in 1976. The owner is Donau-Wasserkraft AG .

Technical specifications

The hydropower plant , with its two Francis pump turbines, has a turbine output of 164 MW and a pump output of 154 megawatts. The upper basin is about 300 meters above the lower basin and is connected to it by an approximately 1.3 km long tunnel. The maximum height of fall is 320 m. The upper basin has a capacity of approx. 1.5 million m³. The maximum energy storage capacity is 950 MWh.

The task

The Langenprozelten pumped storage plant only supplies traction power and is an important peak load power plant in the traction power network. The grid connection is made at the 110 kV high voltage level in the DB Energie power grid .

The basins

The water dammed in the lower basin is the Sindersbach . It usually has no water in summer. Therefore, if necessary , water is pumped up from another retention basin located 1.2 km below the lower basin.

Both barrier structures (upper and lower basins) are stone embankments with an asphalt concrete outer seal.

reachability

The Maintalhöhenringweg only runs a few meters past the upper basin on the Sohlhöhe . You can also get to the upper basin from the Katharinenbild on the public, but not asphalted road from Lohr via the Rote Mühle to Ruppertshütten via a path marked with a fox symbol about a kilometer long.
