The Danube hydropower AG (DWK), headquartered in Munich, is the owner of five hydroelectric power plants on the Danube between Bertoldsheim and vohburg and the pumped storage power plant Langenprozelten .
The company is owned by Rhein-Main-Donau AG with a share of 99.25% and Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH with 0.75% and was founded in 1965 by Rhein-Main-Donau AG and the Deutsche Bundesbahn. DWK's power plants only generate traction current at 16⅔ Hz, which is fed into the network of DB Energie GmbH, since DWK does not have its own network or its own staff, but is a pure financing company. The power plants have been operated by E.ON, now Uniper, since 1996.
Power plants
The four oldest DWK systems are identical in construction. Its turbines have an impeller diameter of 5.35 meters and work at a speed of 76.9 revolutions per minute. All five run-of-river power plants of DWK each have three Kaplan turbines , with adjustable guide and impeller blades.
