The hydroelectric power plant in Ingolstadt is a power station of the Danube hydro power at the barrage Ingolstadt on the Danube and from the Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH operated.

The power plant went into operation in 1971 and is part of the Danube barrage in Ingolstadt at river kilometer 2,459.2. The power plant, which is equipped with three turbine sets, is designed for an expansion water volume of around 500 m³ / s with an expansion head of 5.1 meters and is suitable for swell operation. Three Kaplan turbines with an impeller diameter of 5.35 meters and adjustable guide and impeller blades drive three generators with a nominal output of 6.6 megawatts each  at a speed of 76.9 revolutions per minute. The generated traction current is fed into the traction current network of DB Energie at the 110 kV voltage level . The power plant in Ingolstadt is largely identical to the power plants in Bertoldsheim , Bittenbrunn or Bergheim . The weir of the barrage consists of three fields and the power house on the left. The associated open-air switchgear is located on the left bank .

Reservoir

The reservoir was used for gravel extraction for a long time. The excavation material was transported directly to the gravel works on land using a dredger and conveyor belts. The reservoir has an island that serves as a bird island for nature conservation and up the Danube over numerous strips of land in the water that are older. It prevents the Danube from freezing over, which was common in earlier years, and at the same time reduces the risk of flooding for the surrounding communities. The previously regular flooding of the nearby alluvial forest areas is reduced to a minimum by the barrage, but should possibly be resumed as part of nature conservation.

In addition to the gravel works, there is also a concrete works on the reservoir, on the premises of which there is a climbing hall of the German Alpine Club (DAV) . In addition to the reservoir, the Ingolstadt Baggersee is located in the immediate vicinity of a recreational area. The Schüttel continues as a Danube- specific alluvial forest area up and down the Danube. Around one kilometer away, the north-east of Ingolstadt is more densely built, with agricultural land, an allotment garden area (the moss ) and the Schutter and Ludl in between; in the south, the development with tennis courts and the south-east of Ingolstadt are closer to the reservoir.
