Work and action

Bolte can be seen as one of the central people who established and shaped sociology as a scientific discipline and university subject in West Germany after the Second World War .

He is also considered to be the main founder of Munich's subject-oriented sociology . His contributions to the analysis of the German social structure , especially the striking representation of the stratification structure in the form of an onion ( Bolte onion ), received a lot of attention . In addition, he played a key role in the development of German population science. He also made great contributions to the introduction of " social studies " as a school subject in Germany.

Karl Martin Bolte had a major influence on sociological work, industrial and occupational research through the establishment and management of two special research areas of the DFG (→ Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft ) at the University of Munich (SFB 101: "Theoretical Basics of Social Scientific Occupational and Workforce Research"; SFB 333: “Development Perspectives of Work”).

A particular concern of Bolte was the transfer of sociological knowledge to social practice, especially in business but also in politics and administration. He was a much sought-after speaker and lecturer there. He received a great influence on the training of managers through his many years of activity as a speaker and as a member of the executive committee of the Academy for Business Executives in Bad Harzburg.

A large number of well-known scientists were trained by Karl Martin Bolte and sponsored directly or indirectly - including for example (alphabetically) Ulrich Beck , Elisabeth Beck-Gernsheim , Horst Holzer , Stefan Hradil , Karin Jurczyk , Yolanda Koller-Tejeiro, Reinhard Kreckel , Sabine Kudera , Siegfried Lamnek , Wolfgang Littek, Friedhelm Neidhardt ; Ilona Ostner , Hans J.
