The Öpfingen power plant is a diversion power plant of Stadtwerke Ulm / Neu-Ulm on the Danube near Öpfingen in the Alb-Danube district in Baden-Württemberg .

technology

The power plant designed for high-rise operation is operated with water from the Öpfingen reservoir, has a nominal output of three megawatts and a standard energy capacity of 13.5 million kWh per year. The three identical turbine / generator sets consist of a Kaplan turbine and an asynchronous generator . The extended flow rate is 74 m 3 / h with an average head of 5.5 meters.

Reservoir

The 500,000 m 3 reservoir north of the Danube is fed via a canal that branches off to the left in Öpfingen, about one and a half kilometers long. The weir in Öpfingen, directly on the Danube bridge, consists of five fields. The power plant is located at the eastern end of the reservoir. From there, another 500 meter long canal leads the water back into the Danube.

history

In 1903 the city of Ulm bought a Danube weir and mill near Öpfingen. Construction of the Danube Canal and the power plant began in 1922. The power plant went into operation on March 24, 1923 and was renovated in 1982. The steel weir from the founding time was replaced by a new building in 2001.
