Langenprozelten is a district of Gemünden am Main in the Main-Spessart district in Bavaria .
geography
Langenprozelten is on the right bank of the Main at 157 m above sea level. NN , on the route of the Main-Spessart-Bahn between Gemünden am Main and Neuendorf . The federal highway 26 runs north of the village . The Langenprozelten pumped storage power plant is located in the western part of the district . The community-free area Langenprozeltener Forst is named after Langenprozelten .
Surname
The name is probably made up of the Middle High German word brat , which means roast or meat and the Old High German selde for house . Roast pelder therefore means roughly the same as place where travelers can dine; about a hostel . The addition Langen has been added to distinguish between village and city processes .
history
Langenprozelten was first mentioned in a document in 1184 as a Bratselde . The spelling Langenprozelten has been in use since around 1800 . The village had belonged to Schönrain Abbey since 1276 , which it sold to the Counts of Rieneck in 1319 after its economic decline . After the Counts of Rieneck died out, Prozelten fell to Kurmainz in 1559 . In 1607 the village had about 500 inhabitants. At the end of the Thirty Years' War there were only 40 people alive. Fifty years after the war, Prozelten again had around 600 inhabitants. In 1814 Langenprozelten went to Bavaria .
In 1862 the district office Lohr am Main was formed, on whose administrative area Langenprozelten was located. In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Langenprozelten was now one of the 26 communities in the Lohr am Main district (license plate LOH ).
On April 4, 1945, the approaching US Army responded to the shooting down of a tank with artillery fire and an attack by fighter bombers on the place.
The community, right on the district border of Gemünden am Main, felt neglected by the district of Lohr and therefore applied for allocation to the district of Gemünden in 1952 . With the dissolution of the districts of Lohr and Gemünden in 1972, Langenprozelten became part of the newly formed district of Main-Spessart (license plate KAR , from 1979 MSP ).
On January 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Langenprozelten was incorporated into Gemünden am Main.
