The Żydowo pumped storage power plant (in Polish Elektrownia Żydowo ) is the first Polish pumped storage power plant . It is named after the nearby village Żydowo .

history

The first plans to build a pumped storage power plant between the lakes Jezioro Kamienne and Jezioro Kwiecko were made in 1932. The decisive factor was the small spatial distance between the two lakes, which nevertheless have a large difference in height. In 1941 the plans were finalized, a turbine output of 45 megawatts and two pumps with 16 megawatts each were to be installed. Planning was resumed in the 1950s. Construction work began in 1961 and the power plant went into operation in 1971. At that time it was the first pumped storage power plant in Poland.

technology

The power plant has three machine sets , consisting of two pump turbines and a classic non-reversible turbine . All three turbines are Francis turbines . The pumped storage power plant can deliver an output of 157 megawatts for 4.3 hours in turbine  operation and take up an output of 136 MW for 6.6 hours in pump operation.

The upper storage lake is the Jezioro Kamienne with a lake area of 76 to 100 hectares and the lower storage lake is the Jezioro Kwiecko with a maximum extension of 140 hectares. The difference in altitude between the two lakes is 82.7 meters on average. The usable storage volume is 3.30 million cubic meters. From Kamienne to the inlet of the pressure pipes , a 1316 meter long, 12 feet wide and 9 meters deep leads working channel . The three penstocks are each 467 meters long and 5 meters in diameter.
