The Bailianhe pumped storage power plant , Chinese 白莲 河 抽水 蓄能 电站 , Pinyin Báilián Hé Chōushuǐxùnéng Diànzhàn , "White Lotus Flow Pumped Storage Power Plant"; is a power plant in China in Hubei Province. The State Grid Xinyuan Co Ltd plant in Luotian County, about 143 km east of Wuhan , was the operating company's first larger pumped storage power plant . It was built by the Gezhouba Group (CGGC).
history
In the 1960s, a dam was built at Bailan He, which forms a 1.2 billion m³ storage tank, which is used for irrigation, electricity generation and flood protection. The first plans to supplement this dam with a pumped storage power plant were made in 1994, and the feasibility study was completed in June 2002, so that the project was approved by the State Commission for Development and Reform in August 2003 . The four Francis pump turbines planned for the power plant were combined with turbines for three other pumped storage plants in an international tender for 16 units and awarded to Alstom . Preparatory work for the construction of the power plant began in January 2004, and construction began in August of the same year. The last turbine started production in December 2010. The construction took five years and the construction costs amounted to 3 billion renminbi .
technology
The power station is located north of the Bailianhe dam. The upper basin is 305 m above sea level and has a capacity of 25 million m³, of which 16.63 million m³ can be used. The main dam of the upper basin is a 60 m high concrete-clad stone embankment , the 300 m long crown of which is 312.2 m above sea level. In addition, three small auxiliary dams were necessary for the damming of the upper basin. The lower basin is formed by the Bailan He dam, the water surface of which is 104 m.
The water leaves the upper basin via two approximately 500 m long horizontal pressure tunnels with a diameter of 9 m. In the case of the two water locks, the headwater is fed into two pressure shafts , with each pressure shaft supplying the water to two 300 MW Francis pump turbines supplied by Alstom . The machine house is arranged underground. It consists of the main cavern with the four turbines, the valve cavern in front of it and a transformer cavern. 1.9 million m³ of material had to be excavated for the plant.
The power plant is connected to the Huanggang substation via a 57 km long 500 kV line . The plant was designed to produce 967 GWh annually and consume 1,289 GWh for pumping.
