Nikolai Dmitrievich Yakovlev ( Russian Николай Дмитриевич Яковлев ; born December 19, jul. / 31 December  1898 greg. In Staraya Russa , province Novgorod , Russian Empire ; †  9. May 1972 in Moscow , Russian Soviet republic , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet-Russian Marshal of the Artillery .

Life

Nikolai Dmitrijewitsch Jakowlew was drafted into the Imperial Russian Army in 1916 and took part in the First World War as a non-commissioned officer . In 1918 Yakovlev joined the Red Army and participated as a soldier in the Russian Civil War and as commander of the 7th Army artillery from 1939-1940 in the Winter War.

From 1941 to 1946 - and thus during the Great Patriotic War - he was head of the headquarters for rockets and artillery . Under the leadership of Yakovlev, new models of artillery weapons and ammunition were developed. On February 21, 1944, he was promoted to Marshal of the Artillery.

From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (2nd legislative period). From 1955 to 1960 he was the representative of the Commander in Chief of the Soviet Air Defense Forces .

Yakovlev died in 1972 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow. His sons - the historian Nikolai Nikolajewitsch Jakowlew (1927-1996) and the theater critic Sergei Nikolajewitsch Jakowlew (1944-1991) - were buried next to him.
