Medal "For the Defense of Moscow"
The medal "For the Defense of Moscow" ( Russian Медаль "За оборону Москвы" ) was a Soviet award given to the defenders of Moscow in the course of the Battle of Moscow during World War II . It was founded on May 1, 1944 by Josef Stalin ; as a result, around 1,028,600 medals were issued.
Appearance and wearing style
The gold-colored coin shows on its obverse center the Kremlin with Waving Soviet flag and gen about West flying aircraft. In front of the building complex, the medal shows a T-34 tank with mounted Red Army soldiers . The representation is enclosed by the above inscription За оборону Москвы (For the defense of Moscow) and two laurel branches crossed below, which are connected by the Soviet star . The reverse shows the three-line inscription: За нашу / советскую / родину (For our Soviet homeland), above the symbols hammer and sickle .
The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on an elongated pentagonal fabric-covered clasp, the basic color of which is white with a red hem. Two vertical red stripes are also woven into this ribbon. The associated interim brace is of the same quality.
