The medal "For the Defense of Kiev" ( russian Медаль "За оборону Киева" ) was a Soviet award , which in the defense of the city of Kiev during the Battle of Kiev of the Second World War participants was awarded. However, it was only founded on June 21, 1961 by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the occasion of the 20th return of the German invasion ; as a result, around 180,000 medals were issued.
Appearance and wearing style
The bronze medal shows the building of the Verkhovna Rada with the waving flag in the center of its obverse . A row of people march in front of it, the order of which begins with a Red Army soldier when viewed from the front, followed by a marine, a worker and a peasant woman, who are walking west with their bayonets on . The illustration is enclosed by the above inscription: За оборону Киевa (For the defense of Kiev) and two laurel branches crossed at the bottom, connected in the middle by a Soviet star . The reverse shows the three-line inscription: За нашу советскую родину (For our Soviet homeland).
The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on an elongated pentagonal fabric-covered clasp, the base color of which is light green. A vertical red-blue stripe is woven in the middle of this band, the red stripe being a little wider. The associated interim brace is of the same quality.
