The Tanzmühle pumped storage plant is a combined pumped storage and run-of-river power plant in Tanzmühle, a district of the Tännesberg market in the Upper Palatinate Forest .
history
The plant was built from 1954 by OBAG (Energieversorgung Ostbayern AG) and commissioned in two sections in 1955 (running water) and 1959 (pumped storage).
In 2001 OBAG merged into E.ON Bayern and the power plant was operated by the subsidiary E.ON Wasserkraft . In 2009 E.ON sold several power plants, including this one, to GDF Suez (now Engie) for anti-trust reasons .
technology
The power plant belongs to the Pfreimd power plant group (also known as the Jansen power plant group ), which includes the Tanzmühle power plant and the Reisach and Trausnitz power plants . The group uses the water of the Pfreimd river and the gradient between the Rabenleite reservoir (as the upper water), the Kainzmühl reservoir and the Trausnitz reservoir (as the underwater). Three pressure tunnels connect the high-level storage facility with the power plants: the 1315 meter long Reisach tunnel , the Eulengrund tunnel and the vineyard tunnel .
The Tanzmühle plant has a double function: On the one hand, it serves to pump storage from the Kainzmühl reservoir to the high reservoir. For this purpose, it has a Francis turbine with 35 MW installed useful power and a centrifugal pump with 25 MW power consumption. Secondly, if the Pfreimd carries a lot of water, the surplus is discharged via a run-of-river power station, which is equipped with a second Francis turbine with a useful output of 3.3 MW.
The power plant is electrically connected to the substation in Weiden via a 110 kV line.
