The Erzhausen pumped storage power plant in the village of Kreiensen in Einbeck , Northeim district ( Lower Saxony ) was commissioned in 1964 by PreussenElektra (from 2000: E.ON Energie ) and has been operated by the Norwegian energy supply company Statkraft since 2009 . The eponymous village of Erzhausen was incorporated into the municipality of Kreiensen in 1974.

description

The power plant consists of the lower basin in the Leinetal , on the west bank of which the technical systems are located, and the upper basin on the Selter . The difference in height between the lower and upper basins is almost 300 m. The two pressure pipes from the upper basin to the machine house are each 1,260 meters long and 3.4 meters in diameter.

In the turbine house, four machine sets generate a total nominal output of 220  MW . They each consist of a Francis spiral turbine with a coupled generator and a centrifugal pump .

The potential energy of the water reserve in the upper basin is sufficient for over four hours of electricity production. A total of 1032 MWh of energy can be stored or recovered per cycle  . The water level in the upper basin varies by up to 12 meters.

Network connection

The power plant is connected to the 220 kV Lehrte – Borken line of the transmission system operator Tennet TSO with a 5.2 km long branch line to the west .

As part of the planned new construction of the high voltage line Wahle – Mecklar , the connection line to the pumped storage power plant will also be Template: future / in 4 yearsrenewed and strengthened by 2024 . The connection is to be implemented as a two-kilometer underground cable route in the future. The nominal voltage will be increased to 380 kV and the switchgear of the pumped storage power plant in Erzhausen will be converted accordingly. The 220 kV overhead line built in 1964 can then be dispensed with and dismantled.
