history
The community of Kirnitzschtal was created on March 1, 1994 from the three communities Lichtenhain (with Altendorf and Mittelndorf), Ottendorf and Saupsdorf. The municipal administration got its seat at Schulstrasse 4 in the district Lichtenhain. On October 1, 1998, Kirnitzschtal entered into an administrative partnership with the neighboring town of Sebnitz . Since then, Sebnitz has done part of the administrative work for Kirnitzschtal and received a contribution from the community.
Due to the difficult budget situation in Kirnitzschtal, the local council decided to integrate it into Sebnitz. The county approved the merger on June 25, 2012. The incorporation came into force on October 1, 2012, and the administrative community was dissolved. The former districts of Kirnitzschtal became districts of Sebnitz. The last honorary mayor of the community was Norbert Läsker ( CDU ). Until the local elections in 2014, the five former Kirnitzschtal districts had a joint local council. Since then they each have their own local council.
The population of the municipality rose slightly after its formation to the highest level of 2271 in 1997, but then fell until 2083 in 2011 (December 31st each). The most recently determined population density as of December 31, 2011 was 47 inhabitants per km².
