Location of Schnaditz in Saxony

Schnaditz is a district of Bad Düben an der Mulde , district of Northern Saxony in Saxony .

history

The place was probably created around 1200. Presumably the moated castle Sneudiz was built in 1237. The Lords of Zaschnitz (also spelled Zaschwitz) lived in this castle . Gunter von Zaschnitz went down quite ingloriously in history with the robbery of the horses of the dealer Hans Kohlhase in Wellaune in 1532 - at that time an upstream fortification of Schnaditz. This robbery was the basis for Heinrich von Kleist's novella called Michael Kohlhaas .

Schnaditz belonged to the Eilenburg Office around 1529 and from 1552 to 1815 to the Delitzsch Office of Electoral Saxony . He came to Prussia through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna and in 1816 was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony , to which he belonged until 1952.

In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Schnaditz was connected to the Eilenburg district , which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 . On January 1, 1999, the place was incorporated into Bad Düben.

On January 1, 1999, Schnaditz was incorporated into Bad Düben and has been part of Bad Düben since then.

Attractions

lock

The Schnaditz Castle was probably around 1237 in the marshland of the trough as Wasserburg built. Bodo and Otto von Sneuditz (today Schnaditz) are mentioned in a document as " milites, dicti de Sneuditz " (Knights of Sneuditz). From 1349 to 1940 there were a number of different castle owners. Members of the Zaschnitz family lived there for the longest time (1463–1655) .

Gunter von Zaschnitz became famous as an opponent of the Berlin merchant Hans Kohlhase in the "Kohlhas'schen Handel" from 1532–1540. In 1532 he stole the horses of the dealer Hans Kohlhase in Wellaune (at that time a Vorwerk of Schnaditz). The case later became the template for the novella " Michael Kohlhaas " by Heinrich von Kleist . The Zaschnitz family remained owners of the manor and feudal lords of other villages until 1655.

After the Second World War , the manor was expropriated in the course of the land reform in 1945. During the GDR era, the three wings of the palace housed a house, the municipal administration, a hairdresser, a post office and a kindergarten, among other things. The decline that had begun in the GDR was initially unstoppable due to the vacancy after the fall of the Wall. In the summer of 2014 the castle was sold to a group of investors, and renovation work has been ongoing on the castle since then.

The Schnaditz Castle is followed by a park, which was laid out in 1794 based on the model of the Wörlitzer Park.
