backaldrin The Kornspitz Company is an international family business in the food industry with headquarters in Asten , Upper Austria . The company produces more than 700 baking agents and basic ingredients for bread, biscuits and fine baked goods.

Further manufacturing facilities are located next to Asten since 2006 in Jordan , since 2015 in Switzerland and in Mexico , and since 2016 in South Africa and since 2017 also in Russia . In 2007, around 20 million euros were invested in the construction of a high-rise warehouse in Asten, the company's headquarters. The centerpiece of the warehouse is a 33 m high rack warehouse with space for around 11,000 pallets.

backaldrin is regarded as the Austrian market leader and is represented in more than 100 countries worldwide, in addition to Austria in 17 other countries with its own branches. In 2003 backaldrin set up a meeting point for the baking world with the House of Bread at the Asten location. In 2009 a new House of Bread with training facilities was opened in Warsaw . A House of Bread was opened in Moscow in 2007 . Other Bread Houses are located in Kladno near Prague , Budapest and Amman .

In spring 2013 the new innovation and research center was opened at the company headquarters in Asten. The PANEUM - Wunderkammer des Breads - has been open to the global baking industry and interested visitors since October 2017 .

Kornspitz - the brand name becomes a generic term

In January 2015, the Vienna Higher Regional Court ruled that the term "Kornspitz" in Austria is not a brand name of the backaldrin company, but a generic term used by consumers to denote a type of pastry . The term "Kornspitz" may therefore be used by all other competitors. This was preceded by a ruling by the European Court of Justice , according to which the trademark can be legally declared forfeited after the competitor had applied to the Austrian Patent Office to delete the trademark .

Experience the miracle of bread

The PANEUM - Wunderkammer des Breads - was opened at the company's headquarters at Kornspitzstrasse 1 on October 7, 2017 , on the Long Night of Museums . The founder of PANEUM is backaldrin owner Peter Augendopler. Coop Himmelb (l) au planned the building, consisting of a concrete floor, an attached, arched structure made of wood, covered with stainless steel shingles and reminiscent of a loaf of bread or a pound of bread dough, and an outside staircase . The exhibition is about the millennia-long bread-making culture, exhibits from 30 years of collecting are shown.
