Paneum. Wunderkammer of bread (from panis , Latin . Bread and Museum) is a museum about the age-old culture of bread making . It is located at the headquarters of the food manufacturer Backaldrin in Asten in Upper Austria .

The exhibition is about the millennia-long bread-making culture, exhibits from 30 years of collecting are shown. 1200 exhibits and more than 5000 books can be seen in the library on almost 1000 square meters of exhibition space. The collection includes many old flour sacks, toy cars, Meissen porcelain, guild chests and guild tools, paintings, sculptures and books about the bakery and bread baking from 9000 years, including numerous Egyptian grain mummies , Peruvian totem poles, Chinese granaries (as grave goods) and a miniature by Jan Brueghel the Younger .

architecture

The building was planned by Wolf D. Prix from the avant-garde architecture firm Coop Himmelb (l) au . It consists of a concrete floor, an attached arched structure made of wood, which is covered with NiRo sheet and is reminiscent of a loaf of bread or a pound of bread dough, and an outside staircase. It was awarded the Austrian Builder Award 2018 .
