Wellaune is a district of the city of Bad Düben , in the district of North Saxony in Saxony .

location

Wellaune is located south of the main town Bad Düben.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1340. At that time the village belonged to the Vogtei Schnaditz . Wellaune belonged to the Eilenburg office around 1529 and from 1552 to 1815 to the Delitzsch office .

In 1532, with the approval of the Junker Günther von Zaschwitz († 1534) at the Schnaditz manor, two horses were stolen from the trader Hans Kohlhase from Cölln on the Spree in front of the village inn in Wellaune, who was traveling to the Leipzig fair . Zaschwitz did not want to give it back. Kohlhase fought for his rights. Heinrich von Kleist wrote the novella Michael Kohlhaas about it . A memorial stone was erected in front of the Kohlhaasen mug as a reminder.

In 1664 Georg Fieke from Authausen was “wretchedly stabbed” by Junker Friedrich von Schönfeld (around 1624-after 1682), the owner of the Authausen estate at that time, with over 30 stitches through the heart, body and intestines.

In 1813 Napoleon visited a camp of his troops near Wellaune a few days before the Battle of Leipzig (October 16-19, 1813). As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Wellaune was assigned to the Eilenburg district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

1993 Wellaune was incorporated into Bad Düben on January 1st.
