The Magdeburg Regional Transport Association (marketing name marego. ) Is a transport association of public transport for the Anhalt Saxony- state capital Magdeburg and the surrounding counties . It was originally planned to be introduced on January 1, 2010; after some delays, the network tariff came into effect with the timetable change on December 12, 2010.

Starting position

The area around Magdeburg was one of the last metropolitan areas in Germany in which there was no transport association. Each transport company had its own tariff regulations , so that a second ticket was usually required when changing to another means of transport . The only alternative was the Magdeburg-Umland-Tarif (MUM), which was abolished at the same time as the marego was introduced. The MUM tariff was also valid on all modes of transport, but was only offered in the form of season tickets and day tickets; there was no offer for single tickets . The Magdeburg S-Bahn tariff , a former special tariff of DB Regio AG , was also abolished on December 12, 2010 .

aims

The goals are to create a uniform tariff system for all means of public transport ( buses and trams of the Magdeburg public transport company, as well as the Mittelelbe S-Bahn and regional trains), better coordination of the means of transport with one another and joint marketing.

planning phase

Since 2004, the Ministry for Regional Development and Transport of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, the state capital Magdeburg and the districts of the region have planned to introduce a transport association. After extensive investigations and traffic surveys, a network for Magdeburg and the neighboring districts was declared sensible. A so-called large composite solution , which would also have included the Altmark and the Harz Mountains, was discarded. In 2008 an agreement was reached on the form of the corporate group, whereby the transport companies are the sponsors of the group company. Since 2009 there has been a preparatory office in Magdeburg as a forerunner organization of the transport company. a. calculate the financial requirements for introducing a uniform tariff system and draw up the agreements for the association. The aim was to create the Magdeburg regional transport network on January 1, 2010, but this could not be met. In the meantime, the local authorities involved have given the necessary approval for the belated establishment and the basic contract has been signed by Transport Minister Karl-Heinz Daehre . The state of Saxony-Anhalt compensates for the losses incurred by the new tariff for the transport companies involved and pays up to 5.5 million euros over four years. The network tariff was introduced on December 12, 2010, at the same time as the timetable change. It is based on tariff zones and replaces the previously applicable house tariffs as well as the Magdeburg-Umland-Tarif (MUM), which also expires in the areas to which the network does not extend (Anhalt-Zerbst).

Participating companies

All transport companies in the network are responsible for the association. These are:
