history

Osterfeld Castle in the 15th century

The history of the city goes back to the Middle Ages. A Slavic hill fort from the 6th century has been found at the location of Osterfeld Castle . In the 11th and 12th centuries the facility was expanded extensively. The old castle keep (popularly known as the Matzturm ), the surrounding walls and the remains of the ramparts have been preserved. The castle was the seat of the Counts of Osterfeld, who are mentioned for the first time with Hermann I in 1215.

In a certificate issued on September 14, 1114, today's district of Lissen is named as "Lizni" for the first time.

In 1198, in a document from Margrave Dietrich von Meißen for the Lausnitz monastery, Osterfeld was first mentioned, derived from the name of the Volkramus de Ostervelt named in the document . The castle and castle chapel, in which the provost of Lissen is supposed to worship, are first mentioned in 1280. In 1335 the city and the castle, Castrum et oppidum Ostirvelt , appear together in a Naumburg document.

The current district of Pitzschendorf is first mentioned in 1349 as "Buczendorf", in other documents from this time the name "Butkindorf" is also included.

The oldest seal and the first documented mention of the market are proven to be for the year 1515. In 1565, Emperor Maximilian II gave the city the right to hold two additional annual markets.

In 1566 the city was hit by a plague epidemic.

On April 1, 1938, Lissen and Pitzschendorf were incorporated into the city of Osterfeld; after a 3-month transition period, the Osterfeld local law comes into force there on July 1.

Osterfeld belonged in the GDR to the Zeitz district , which was incorporated into the Halle district. The place had the community number 082023. By 1972 the population of Osterfeld had grown to 2,077.

On January 1st, 2010 the communities Goldschau , Heidegrund and Waldau were incorporated into the city of Osterfeld.

With the incorporation of Lissen in 1938, an eight-class school with eight teachers was created; previously there had been separate facilities in Osterfeld and Lissen. As a result of the Second World War, school operations were interrupted, but resumed on September 1, 1945.

religion

A chapel that existed until at least 1537 belonged to the castle complex.

The church in Lissen, first mentioned in 1216, was rebuilt in the Gothic style from 1256 to 1280 , but the basilica still has remains of the Romanesque predecessor building. In 1298 the Lissen monastery, a cell of the Reinhardsbrunn monastery , was first mentioned in a document. From this a parish church emerged after the dissolution, which was also under Reinhardsbrunn. In 1539 the parish of Lissen became Protestant in the course of the Reformation, Pastor Anton Zimmermann replaced the Catholic provost Johann Tuntz. In addition to Lissen, Osterfeld, Pitzschendorf, Pauscha and Corseburg also belonged to the parish, later only the branch in Haardorf was subordinate to the parish church . The rectory in Lissen was built in 1691 on the remains of the cellar belonging to the old monastery. Lissen was the seat of a superintendent from 1838 to 1941 .

On April 7, 1574, after almost 5 years of construction, the Osterfeld church was consecrated by Zeitz superintendent Peter Prätorius. After years of efforts, Osterfeld separated from Lissen in 1575. As a result of the city fire of 1679, a new church was built from 1682, which was inaugurated in 1735. In 1895 the building received its neo-Gothic tower.

In 1958 a Catholic rectory with a chapel was completed in the Pitzschendorf district.
