history
A Slavic rampart from the 6th century, the remains of which are still preserved today, was built in the 11th / 12th century. In the 19th century, the burgraves of Neuchâtel expanded it into an almost square low castle made of quarry stone masonry . The castle complex was first mentioned in a document in 1198 by Margrave Dietrich von Meißen in a document issued to the Lausnitz monastery .
The keep with the round tower popularly known as the "Matzturm" and a pointed arched portal as well as wall remnants have been preserved from the original complex . The castle grounds are now used as a primary school and are only accessible to a limited extent.
