Christian Schumann ( pseudonym Rischitani Munschani ; born February 15, 1681 in Osterfeld , † 1744 in Pötewitz ) was a German Protestant pastor and poet of sacred songs .

Life

Schumann was the son of a shopkeeper . He attended the Thomas School in Leipzig and studied from 1701 at the University of Leipzig .

After the untimely death of his father, he financed his studies through scholarships and teaching. In 1708 he received the degree of Magister . From 1712 he earned his living as a tutor for noble families.

In 1721 he got his first job as a pastor and worked in Döschwitz and Kirchsteitz, both of which are now districts of the Kretzschau community . From 1736 he worked in Pötewitz, now part of Wetterzeube .

Schumann wrote some of his song texts under the pseudonym Rischitani Munschani and published them in collections such as The Heart of David singing a new song to the Lord or a new song rehearsal sanctified by God ( Naumburg 1721). August Jacob Rambach included Schumann's song The Lord, who rules me and leads me wonderfully in his anthology; the song is partly wrongly ascribed to Cyriacus Schneegass . Schumann's poems also include If you children of this earth come, you want to be happy one day .

Schumann died in Pötewitz in 1744.
