history

Kretzschau was first mentioned in a document in 1004, when the Zeitz bishop Hildewart returned the former Merseburg villages to the Merseburg bishop at the request of King Heinrich II . In return, Hildewart received the villages of Croziwa (Kretzschau), Gribna and Grodischau. The names Croziwa, Krautschonwe, Crotzschow, Kretzschwehe are still popular today. Numerous wars and devastating fires led to great losses of people and material goods. The parish village of Groitzschen and the village of Näthern belong to the parish village of Kretzschau.

A part of today's place was in the Electoral Saxon office of Haynsburg until 1792 .

Kretzschau and Groitzschen had a purely rural population. In the second half of the 19th century the development into an industrial village began after rich brown coal fields had been discovered in the area . In 1890 mighty coal seams were mined in Groitzschen.

Incorporations

The former communities Grana and Döschwitz were incorporated into the community of Kretzschau on January 1, 2010.

Across from the elementary school in Hauptstrasse, the residents erected a memorial for KPD chairman Ernst Thälmann , who was murdered in Buchenwald concentration camp in 1944, as part of the national reconstruction work .

The honorary mayor Gertraud Dürholt was first elected on February 17, 2008. She was followed by Eckard Osang, who was elected in 2009, in the formation of the Verbandsgemeinde on January 1, 2010. Anemone Just has been the mayor of the Kretzschau community since July 2014.

On November 4, 2015, the district administrator of the Burgenlandkreis granted the municipality of Kretzschau permission to use a coat of arms and a flag. The design for the coat of arms, flag and official seal comes from the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .

Description of coat of arms

"On a golden shelf covered with ten black pearls, above a green shield base with three rectangular golden stones (2: 1), split by silver and blue, in front a green hop plant climbing a black pole, behind a silver sugar beet with golden leaves."

meaning

Beet and hops symbolize the agricultural activity that has been carried out over many generations and the sugar factory, while the three rectangular stones in the base of the shield indicate sandstone mining. The ten pearls in the board stand for the ten districts of the municipality.

"The flag is blue and white (1: 1) striped (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the municipal coat of arms."

Salsitz vinotheque

In Elstertal near Salsitz is the "Salsitzer Englischer Garten" vineyard with a large number of grape varieties. Here on southern slopes z. B. Dornfelder, Bacchus, Kerner, Ortega and Müller-Thurgau. One has a view of the vineyards from Raba. Local wines can be tasted and bought in the Salsitz vinotheque.

traffic

The federal highway 180 , which leads from Zeitz to Naumburg (Saale) , runs directly through the municipality . The rail link ( Zeitz – Camburg line ) was discontinued in 1998.
