General story

Relief on the town hall: VINCAT VERITAS ATQUE IUSTITIA - May truth and justice prevail. TEUCHERN SECRETUM CIVITATIS - The seal of the city. 1722, July 17th

The area around Teuchern was settled more than 5000 years ago, which is proven by numerous bone and tool finds.

Teuchern was the main town of the Sorbs, who had gradually settled since the 7th century. Like Tauchlitz, today in the Weißenfelser urban area, or Taucha near Poserna, the name means moist, swampy place in Old Sorbian. From this the name of the small clan of the Tuchari is derived, which had developed after the settlement around Teuchern and along the Rippach and whose main town was Teuchern. It can be assumed that the Tuchari built a simple ring castle similar to Treben near Dehlitz / Saale on the orders of Carolingian or Ottonian margraves or the king himself, but there is no evidence. The city was first mentioned in a document in 976. Emperor Otto II donated, among other things, the “in pago Ducharin nominato basilicam” (the basilica in the Teuchern district) to the Zeitz church . The very fact that Teuchern had a basilica , i.e. a permanent church, shows the importance of the place at that time. However, only the (main) church was given away, the village and hilltop castle remained imperial property. This is confirmed by a deed of donation from Emperor Heinrich III. confirmed by 1042, where the donated property is described as being in Burgward Teuchern. Soon the king must have passed Teuchern on. Around 1070, the Margrave of the Nordmark, Udo von Stade, exchanged his property for Groitzsch and Profen, including Teuchern, with Count Wiprecht from Belsemgau. A Bethericus de castello Tuchin in the service of Wiprecht von Groitzsch is mentioned in the Pegau Chronicle. Thus, the Teuchern ministerial family has been proven since 1070. They administered the castle and town of Teuchern. Wiprecht's rival Ekbert von Braunschweig, Margrave of Meissen, uses the fight between King Heinrich IV and the rival king Rudolf to occupy Teuchern in 1080. When the king counterattacked after the lost battle of Mölsen, Wiprecht recaptured the castle in December 1080.

In the course of the dispute between King Heinrich V and the Saxon nobility under Duke Lothar (1125 kg.), Count Palatine Friedrich IV of Saxony (Goseck) entrenched himself in the castle in 1112 and was besieged and captured by King Heinrich V. The castle was destroyed in the process. The king handed them over to the Meissen margrave Wiprecht von Groitzsch . It was probably not rebuilt until the death of the margrave in 1124. Instead, the lords of Teuchern used the Edelhof from now on, which must have been located around the same place where the former manor and today's medical center is located.

This knightly family of Teuchern (Tuchern) named after the place Teuchern is documented from the 11th to the 16th century.

Since the region was still sparsely populated, settlers were brought in through concessions (especially real estate or the usual ten-year exemption from basic interest). This is how the chapter parish , which consisted of Franconian settlers, came into being in Teuchern . In addition, the old Wendendorf continued to exist. Due to the settlers, the place Teuchern grew and with it its importance. The market already existed when Bishop Udo von Naumburg granted the Neuwerk monastery near Halle 1135 duty-free in Teuchern.

In 1480, Duke Albrecht von Sachsen granted the town the right to hold a Whitsun and an autumn market on the day of Simon Judaeus (October 28), as well as weekly markets. This made Teuchern a city.

Pastor Anton Zimmermann, who worked in Teuchern from 1523 to 1526, tried to introduce the Reformation in Teuchern as a follower of Martin Luther's teachings . This failed because of the Saxon Duke Georg the Bearded , who was a bitter opponent of the Reformation. Only after the Duke's death in 1539 were the Lutheran teachings preached in Teuchern.

In 1815 Teuchern came to Prussia after 700 years of reign of the House of Wettin . When the Prussian administrative structures were taken over in 1816, the city belonged to the newly founded Weißenfels district ( Merseburg administrative district ), whose first district administrator was the Teuchern manor owner August Heinrich Ferdinand von Funcke. Although the residents initially saw themselves as “Must-Prussians”, they quickly got used to the new masters. The industrialization of the region began under Prussian rule and with the growth of lignite mining , Teuchern also regained importance.

1919–1925 the Uhrgläserwerke Deutscher Uhrmacher eGmbH were based in Teuchern, which was the market leader in Germany at the time. A 50-pfennig emergency note from the city of Teuchern from 1921 shows the company's facilities.

In 1945/1947 Teuchern and the Weißenfels district became part of the newly created state of Saxony-Anhalt , and from 1952 part of the new Hohenmölsen district in the Halle district . After 1994 back in the Sachsen-Anhalt district of Weißenfels , Teuchern has been part of the new Burgenland district since 2007 .

Incorporations

Teuchern originally consisted of three independent communities, the small community of small teuchers , the chapter community and the manor community. In 1834 the town parish was formed from the alley parish and the chapter parish. The following were incorporated:

  • September 30, 1928 the Gutsgemeinde together with the Vorwerk Lagnitz
  • 1st July 1950 the village of Schortau
  • January 1, 2004 the community of Schelkau with the districts of Bonau and Lagnitz

On 1 January 2011 was out of town Teuchern and communities Deuben , Gröben , Gröbitz , Krauschwitz , Nessa , Prittitz and Trebnitz the unit municipality city Teuchern . With the formation of the new city, the city involved in the new formation and the participating communities were dissolved, as well as the administrative community Vier Berge-Teucherner Land , in which all united communities were organized.
