Saint-Jean-Bonnefonds is a French commune in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Étienne and the canton of Saint-Étienne-5 . The 6,638 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) of the municipality call themselves Saint-Jeandaires .
geography
Saint-Jean-Bonnefonds is located about 45 kilometers southwest of Lyon in the Massif Central . Saint-Jean-Bonnefonds is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sorbiers in the north, Saint-Chamond in the east, Saint-Étienne in the south and west and La Talaudière in the north-west.
The municipality is located on the edge of the Pilat Regional Nature Park and is associated with it as an access point. The A72 autoroute and the national route 88 run through the municipality .
