Planfoy is located about seven kilometers south-southeast of the city center of Saint-Etienne in the historic Forez landscape on the Furan River . Planfoy is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Étienne in the north and east, Saint-Genest-Malifaux in the south and west and la Ricamarie in the north-west.
