Villars is a French commune in the district of Saint-Etienne in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Villars has 7,970 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
geography
The municipality is located about 50 kilometers southwest of Lyon in the Massif Central . The furan limits the community in the north. Villars is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of La Fouillouse in the north, L'Étrat in the northeast, Saint-Priest-en-Jarez in the east, Saint-Étienne in the southeast and Saint-Genest-Lerpt in the south and west.
The municipality is located on the edge of the Pilat Regional Nature Park and is associated with it as an access point. The A72 autoroute from Saint-Étienne to Clermont-Ferrand runs through the municipality .
The community had a stop on the Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons-Lyon-Perrache railway line, which is no longer served today.

Attractions
One of the earliest continental railways is in Villars or in the small town of Bois Monzil. This railway has been a monument historique since 2001.
The 15th century church of Saint-Laurent was renovated in the neo-Gothic style between 1860 and 1870. The church windows were made by Alexandre Mauvernay .
Today's town hall is located in the Château de Villars.
Community partnerships
A community partnership has existed with the Spanish municipality of Torredembarra in Catalonia since 1984 and with the German city of Halberstadt in Saxony-Anhalt since 2003.
