Le Bessat is a French municipality with 446 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Étienne in the canton of Le Pilat (until 2015: canton of Saint-Genest-Malifaux ). The inhabitants are called Bessataires .

geography

Le Bessat is located about eleven kilometers southeast of the city center of Saint-Étienne in the historic Forez landscape on the Furan River , which rises here. Le Bessat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Valla-en-Gier in the north, Graix in the east and south-east, Thélis-la-Combe in the south and south-east, Tarentaise in the south and west and Planfoy in the west and north-west.
