Genilac (as Genilac ) is a French municipality with 3896 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Genilac is part of the Roanne arrondissement and the Rive-de-Gier canton . The inhabitants are called Génilacois (es) .
geography
The municipality of Genilac is located on the river Durèze , which flows into the Gier in the southeast . Genilac is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Romain-en-Jarez in the north and north-west, Saint-Martin-la-Plaine in the north-east, Rive-de-Gier in the east and south-east, Lorette in the south, Cellieu in the south-west and Chagnon in the west.

Genilac is an amalgamation of the municipalities of La Cula and Saint-Génis-Terrenoire in 1973.
