Maclas is a French commune with 1,804 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Étienne and is part of the canton of Le Pilat (until 2015: canton of Pélussin ). The inhabitants are called maclaires .

Maclas is located about 25 kilometers east-southeast of Saint-Étienne . Maclas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Roisey in the north and northwest, Bessey and Lupé in the north, Malleval and Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf in the northeast, Limony in the east, Charnas in the southeast, Vinzieux in the south, and Saint-Jacques-d'Atticieux in the South and southwest, Saint-Appolinard in the southwest and Véranne in the west.

Maclas is located in the Pilat Regional Nature Park .
