Le Chambon-Feugerolles is a French commune in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Étienne and the canton of Saint-Étienne-2 . The 12,317 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) of the city call themselves Chambonnaires .
geography
Le Chambon-Feugerolles is located about 60 kilometers southwest of Lyon in the Massif Central . The place is on the river Ondaine , a small tributary of the upper Loire . The municipality is located on the edge of the Pilat Regional Nature Park and is associated with it as an access point.
history
During the Middle Ages, Feugerolles Castle, built in 1260 by Hugues de Lavieu, dominated the area. Le Chambon-Feugerolles soon became a center of blacksmithing. In 1832 the municipalities of Le Chambon and Feugerolles were merged. In 1843, La Ricamarie became an independent community.
