Cellieu is a French commune with a population of 1,697 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Étienne and the canton of Sorbiers (until 2015: canton of La Grand-Croix ). The inhabitants are called Cellieutaires .

geography

Cellieu is about 14 kilometers northeast of Saint-Étienne . The Durèze river limits the municipality to the north. Cellieu is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Valfleury in the north and west, Chagnon in the north and north-east, Lorette in the east and south-east, La Grand-Croix in the south and south-east, L'Horme in the south and Saint-Chamond in the south-west.
