Saint-Joseph is located about 22 kilometers northeast of Saint-Étienne . The greed limits the municipality to the south. Saint-Joseph is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Didier-sous-Riverie in the north, Chabanière with Saint-Maurice-sur-Dargoire in the east, Châteauneuf in the southeast, Rive-de-Gier in the south and Saint-Martin-la-Plaine in the West.
